Mission Statement

The Deputy General Counsel (Legal Counsel) assists the General Counsel and advises senior DoD officials on numerous complex legal matters. The DGC (LC) oversees and coordinates litigation matters (including habeas litigation involving Guantanamo detainees) within DoD and with the Department of Justice, and provides legal advice on legislative matters, Constitutional questions, Congressional subpoenas and requests for information, Freedom of Information and Privacy Act matters, and other matters of special concern to the General Counsel. In addition, the DGC (LC) supervises the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals, and the General Counsel of Defense Media Activity.
