The Deputy General Counsel (Legal Counsel) assists the General Counsel and advises senior DoD officials on various novel and complex legal matters affecting the Depart, particularly those concerning litigation, information law, personnel security clearance, and departmental media activity. The DGC (Legal Counsel) also supervises the Office of Litigation Counsel, the Office of the Chief Prosecutor in the Office of Military Commissions at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, the Office of Information Counsel, the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals, and the General Counsel of Defense Media Activity.
