Charles “Chuck” Poché serves as the Deputy General Counsel (Fiscal) within the Office of General Counsel of the Department of War. He has functional responsibility for legal advice and services in the broad areas of federal appropriations law and Department of War financial management. Before assuming his current role, he served as an Associate General Counsel with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency with a focus on operational law matters. Mr. Poché is originally from Paulina, Louisiana. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and a U.S. Army commission from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Following his time as an officer in the Armor Branch, he attended law school at the University of Virginia and earned his Juris Doctor degree through the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program. He then served in a variety of early assignments as an officer in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps, to include an operational deployment to Kosovo. After earning a Master of Laws degree in Military Law from the Judge Advocate Graduate Course, he continued his uniformed service in various staff officer and legal office leadership roles. He also earned a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College. Mr. Poché served four times as a Staff Judge Advocate and deployed to Iraq three times. His Staff Judge Advocate assignments include the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning, GA; 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, TX; XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, NC; and Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve during combat operations against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. His final military assignment was as the Chief of Plans for the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He then retired from military service after 30 years and began his civilian service with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. Mr. Poché is a graduate of the Armor Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses, the Judge Advocate Basic and Graduate Courses, Command and Senior Staff School, the Command and General Staff College Common Core, and the Army War College. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), the Legion of Merit (4), the Meritorious Service Medal (5), the Army Commendation Medal (4), the Army Achievement Medal (3), the Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
